James Woods is an eighth grader who has been performing in community
theatre and school productions since he was 7 years old. James fell in love with theatre after his
sister encouraged him to audition for a role in ‘A Christmas Carol’. His most recent performances include, ‘The
Adventures of Tom Sawyer’ as Oliver, and ‘The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat’ as
Zebulon. In James’s upcoming performance
he will play Archie in ’13-The Musical’.
LEANDRA N. JACKSON: Can you tell us about your roll as “Archie”?
JAMES WOODS: Archie has muscular dystrophy and
is an outcast at school. He isn't accepted by most of his classmates because of
his disability. He decides to become friends with Evan and tricks him in to
getting what he wants. Archie is sweet, caring, mentally strong and clever.
LNJ:
How did you get involved in this production?
JW:
My friend, Ben Cherington, told me about the auditions back
in April, and since I love the show, I decided
to audition.
LNJ: What do
you like so far about being a part of this production?
JW:
Everyone is so talented and nice. We all worked really hard to make this show
fabulous. It’s also nice to be surrounded by people who are as passionate for
theater as you are.
LNJ:
Do you plan on doing more musicals in the future?
JW:
Yes, I want to do theater throughout high school and
hopefully have a career in acting.
LNJ:
What would you say is the most challenging part about being in a
musical?
JW:
Definitely having to sing, dance and act at the same time and
having to maintain energy throughout the song and show.
LNJ:
Do you share any similarities with Archie?
JW:
I feel like Archie and I are both clever and bright.
Sometimes Archie makes big mistakes, as do I, but that is just part of growing
up.
LNJ:
What would you is the most challenging thing about being a teenager
today?
JW:
I would say finding
your place in the world and fitting in.
LNJ:
If you could give any teenage advice, as a “Survival Guide”, what would
it be?
JW:
To always be confident with your decisions and don't let
anyone say you can't achieve something because as long as you work hard and
believe in yourself, you can do anything.
LNJ:
Are you excited for your family and friends to come out to see the show?
JW: Yes,
I am really excited to hear their thoughts about the production!
